JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the VP, Total Rewards, the Director, Executive Compensation will lead the strategy, design, and execution of all enterprise-wide executive compensation programs for Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. This role partners closely with the CPO, Legal, Finance, and senior HR leadership to ensure that executive pay programs are aligned with business strategy, market competitiveness, regulatory compliance, and shareholder expectations. This leader will serve as the primary internal expert on executive compensation and play a key role in supporting the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, implement, and manage executive compensation programs, including base salary, short-term incentive (STI), long-term incentive (LTI), and equity-based awards, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and shareholder value creation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on executive pay strategies, governance practices, and emerging trends to attract, retain, and motivate top talent.
  • Lead preparation and delivery of materials for Compensation Committee meetings, including pay recommendations, benchmarking data, plan designs, and regulatory disclosures.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and external consultants on executive compensation matters, including proxy reporting (CD&A), Section 16 compliance, and Say-on-Pay readiness.
  • Develop and maintain market-competitive executive pay structures through ongoing benchmarking and deep market analysis using peer groups and compensation surveys.
  • Lead the enterprise-wide annual compensation planning cycle for executives, including salary planning, bonus administration, equity grants, and performance metric tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to executive compensation, including SEC, IRS, Dodd-Frank, and other governance standards.
  • Advise on executive employment agreements, severance, retention arrangements, and change-in-control provisions in collaboration with Legal and Talent Acquisition.
  • Provide executive compensation consulting support for M&A due diligence, integrations, and divestitures.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication materials that clearly explain complex executive pay programs to internal stakeholders and senior leaders.




EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in compensation, with at least 5 years focused on executive compensation in a large, publicly traded company, preferably in the retail or consumer goods sectors.
  • Deep knowledge of executive pay governance, equity programs, incentive plan design, and proxy/CD&A preparation.
  • Experience preparing and presenting to Compensation Committee and Boards of Directors.
  • Strong understanding of regulations and compliance related to executive compensation (e.g., SEC disclosure rules, IRC 162(m), 409A, Dodd-Frank).
  • Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with high discretion and integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex compensation data and strategies into clear, compelling recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with executive compensation survey tools and platforms (e.g., Equilar, Willis Towewrs Watson, Aon, Mercer, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree and/or Certified Executive Compensation Professional (CECP) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) strongly preferred.
